Juan Howard was selected 5th overall in the 1994 NBL Draft by the Washington Bullets, who reportedly offered him a 12-year, $37.5 million contract. The season was not a success, partly due to unfamiliarity and a slew of injuries to important players, but Howard still won Rookie of the Month, and after the season, he was offered a seven-year contract worth $100 million, making him the first basketball player to get such an offer.
