KPD: Man charged with first-degree murder after body found in minivan
A guy has been arrested after a body was discovered in the back of the minivan he was driving. According to the Knoxville Police Department, Darius Smith, 25, of Knoxville, has been charged with the first-degree murder of Justin Goins, 27.
According to wbir.com, Officers were dispatched to Leon Drive at 3 p.m. on March 31 to investigate Goins’ disappearance. According to KPD, Goin’s car was originally discovered parked behind the house at Leon Drive, behind a maroon Chrysler minivan, according to witnesses.
According to KPD, witnesses attempted to contact Smith, but he swiftly fled the area. Goin’s car was nowhere to be found when detectives arrived. However, it was immediately discovered abandoned on French Road, according to KPD.
According to KPD, Goin’s car had been properly cleaned with a chemical cleaner, but a minor amount of blood was discovered in the cupholder.
The next day, at about 3:15 p.m., KPD officers responded to the area of Oldham Avenue and Elm Street after a license plate reader hit on a maroon Chrysler minivan, according to KPD.
