Joyce Chapman Death – Well-known Chicago Community Activist Joyce Chapman has sadly passed away leaving those that knew her heartbroken. She died on Wednesday 27th September 2023 surrounded by her beloved family. She was announced dead on her Facebook saying “It is with a heavy heart, that we would like to confirm the news of our mother Joyce Chapman passing”. The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of Joyce Chapman’s death has not been known.

According to pbcchicago, Joyce’s journey began in Tokyo, Japan, where she was born and raised. Her unique upbringing, attending school on military bases and her extensive travels, have endowed her with a profound cultural sensitivity. For over five decades, she has called the historic Pullman community her home, and she has always felt a deep sense of duty to actively engage with her community. In May 2002, Joyce embarked on a mission close to her heart: the establishment of the Pullman Community Development Corporation, with a primary focus on revitalizing North Pullman.
Joyce was a multifaceted individual – a dedicated community organizer, a visionary leader, an empowered woman, and a lifelong learner. Her unwavering commitment was to ensure that all children and families in her community receive quality education, experience robust public safety, have access to adequate housing, and are supported in all positive community endeavors.

Joyce Chapman Career
Joyce’s impact extends beyond the borders of her own community. Since its inception in 2011, she has been an active member of the Far South Community Action Council (FSCAC) of the Chicago Public Schools, and she served as its Chairwoman until June 14, 2022. With more than two decades of experience in community engagement and social service, Joyce’s professional background includes working with Wards of the State and Department of Corrections (DOC) Juvenile parolees. Joyce’s dedication to community safety and well-being was evident in her role as the CAPS Beat 512 Facilitator for the 5th District of the Chicago Police Department, a position she held from 1999 to 2009.
Subsequently, she assumed the role of District Advisory Council President for the 5th District, where she tirelessly collaborated with community residents to combat crime in various Chicagoland neighborhoods. Joyce firmly believes in the importance of working closely with local police districts to ensure safety and enhance the overall quality of life in her community.
