In the early hours of Monday, one man was slain, another was in critical condition, and a third was injured after their vehicle veered off a Lynwood freeway embankment. The accident was reported just before 1:15 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the 105 Freeway near Long Beach Boulevard, where a four-door BMW drove off the freeway, plowed through a concrete barrier wall, and landed on a surface street below after rolling down the embankment multiple times.
One of the passengers was pronounced deceased at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department crews, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of what were considered to be traumatic injuries. The identities of both individuals were withheld pending notification of next of kin.
While freeway traffic was unaffected by the accident, authorities closed Fir Street between Fernwood Avenue and Lynwood Road beneath the freeway overpass. CalTrans personnel were also dispatched to the scene to repair the damaged guardrail and barrier wall. The BMW Emergency Center was able to provide information regarding the accident, according to the California Highway Patrol.
