Josh Morrissey Injury – On Saturday afternoon, the defenseman for the Winnipeg Jets, Josh Morrissey, went down with an injury to his lower body during the first period of Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Jets have decided that Morrissey will not return for the remainder of Game 3 due to his injury. “Horrible news for the #NHLJets, as defenceman Josh Morrissey has been ruled out with a lower-body injury. He played parts of two shifts in the opening frame of Game 3.”
Before leaving the game, Morrissey had only skated for a total of just more than a minute of ice time across two stints. It is unknown when Morrissey suffered the injury, but before to departing the game, he could be seen favouring the leg that was injured. The Jets are now behind the Golden Knights by a score of 2-1, and the series is knotted 1-1 after the first period.

Joshua “Josh” Morrissey was born on March 28, 1995, in Calgary, Alberta. He is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and alternate captain for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). Josh was selected by the Jets in the first round, 13th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing career
Amateur
Morrissey represented the Calgary Flames at the 2007 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. After playing for Calgary Royals Gold and being named southern Alberta’s finest bantam defenseman, the Prince Albert Raiders selected him sixth overall in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. Morrissey made his WHL debut in 2010, playing five games with Prince Albert after spending most of the season with the Calgary Royals midget AAA squad and appearing for squad Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He helped Alberta win bronze.
Morrissey led Prince Albert’s defencemen with 15 goals, 32 assists, a +14 plus-minus rating, and 91 penalty minutes in 2012–13. Since 2003–04, the Raiders won. The Winnipeg Jets selected Morrissey 13th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Morrissey became Raiders captain before the 2013–14 season. He returned to Prince Albert for the season after signing a three-year, two-way contract with the Winnipeg Jets on October 3, 2013.
In 59 regular season games in 2013–14, he scored 28 goals and 45 assists (73 points) with a +6 plus-minus rating and 59 penalty minutes to rank second in the WHL in scoring. The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the fourth-place Raiders in the first round to win the Memorial Cup. Morrissey joined the Kelowna Rockets on December 10, 2014. He helped the Rockets win the WHL and reach the 2015 Memorial Cup final, where they lost to the Oshawa Generals.
Professional
Morrissey played eight regular season and 20 Calder Cup playoff games with Winnipeg’s AHL club, the St. John’s IceCaps, in 2013–14. The next season, the Jets sent him to their new AHL club, the Manitoba Moose, but they quickly called him up late in the season to make his NHL debut on March 5, 2016, against the Montreal Canadiens at home. Morrissey scored his first NHL goal on November 15, 2016, in a 4–0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
He scored 6 goals and 20 points in 82 Jets games in his first full season. Morrissey helped the Jets reach the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs with 26 points in 81 games in his second season. Morrissey was penalized one game for cross-checking Minnesota Wild forward Eric Staal in the first round. Morrissey signed an 8-year, $50 million agreement with the Jets on September 12, 2019, for $6.25 million per year. Morrissey was chosen as Jets alternate captain on October 1, 2019, before the 2019–20 NHL season.
