Joseph Morello Death – Retired Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Morello of Lockport New York has sadly passed away. He died leaving family and friends in shock and disbelief. He was announced dead on the Lockport Firefighters Facebook page through a post that reads “It is with profound sadness that we report the unexpected passing of retired Assistant Chief Joseph A. Morello”. The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of Joseph Morello’s death has not been made public.

Joseph Morello Career

Joe served the City of Lockport from May 28, 1989 through May 30, 2021. People like retired Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Morello leave an indelible mark on the lives of those who have the opportunity of working with them because of their charisma and leadership. After more than three decades of service, Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Morello has risen through the ranks to become the department’s Chief. Even in the face of extreme adversity, he maintained a level head as a leader.

Chief Morello’s steady presence created trust in his fellow firemen, whether he was leading them in a complex rescue mission or guiding them during a blazing inferno. His dedication to practice and readiness was unparalleled. He realized that the best way to combat fires was to not just put out existing ones, but to prevent future ones by training and teaching.

Who was Joseph Morello?

He put in many hours of work holding drills and encouraging a culture of constant learning to guarantee his squad was ready for anything. Despite his obvious competence in his field, Chief Morello’s distinguishing characteristic was the kindness of his heart. In addition to being a leader, he also served as a mentor and friend to his team members. He cared enough to hear them out, direct them in the right direction, and stand by them both at work and in their personal lives. His genuine care for his crew spawned a feeling of togetherness and camaraderie that beyond the confines of the firehouse.

Chief Morello cared deeply for the people he protected. He thought it was important for firefighters to be involved in their communities outside of work. He frequently visited local schools as a volunteer to talk to youngsters and teach them about fire safety. After Chief Morello retired, he was honored by his colleagues and the local community.
