Accident: After an 18-year-old was hit and killed by cars, his family is seeking answers – Over the weekend, an 18-year-old guy was hit and murdered, and his family has many questions. Jose Polanco was detained by police for a driving violation two blocks from his home. Jose’s aunt compared him to her son. He’d only been in Tulsa for a year, and she can’t believe he’s already passed away. Jose Polanco, 18, went to the United States from Guatemala in quest of a better life, according to Maria Polanco.
According to news9.com, Jose was her nephew, but because Jose’s brothers and relatives remained in Guatemala, she adopted him as a son. He was already struggling after sustaining a head injury during a robbery a few months back, but he was improving.
In a translated interview, Maria remarked, “It was a difficult situation, but he was recuperating.” Jose was driving home on Saturday night, Maria recalled when he was stopped for a traffic violation near this intersection. Officers noticed he didn’t have a driver’s license and his tag was incorrect, so they towed his car and forced him to walk the two blocks home.
Jose called his cousin, Maria claimed, but the phone went dead in the middle of their talk. Jose had been hit by at least four cars on 11th street and murdered, just 50 feet from his home, minutes later.
