Jorge Luis Amigó, 81, a resident of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on January 29, 2021, at the Duke University Medical Center. His devoted wife was by his side during his final moments. His health has been steadily deteriorating for a number of years. On February 23, 1939, the youngest son of Dr Isidro Amigó Arnáiz and Georgina del Portillo Alfonso Amigó, Jorge was born in Havana, Cuba. He was the only child of his parents. At the beginning of 1962, he moved his family to the United States and joined his brother in Durham. He was relieved that he would not have to travel any further north.
Jorge wed his wife, Hattie, 58 years ago, and he was a dedicated and loving husband. He supported his wife in any endeavor she chose, as long as it involved food, and he was happy to do so. He was a wonderful parent who cherished the time he got to spend with his daughter and would frequently accompany her to events in which she was taking part. He invested time and effort into instructing and guiding her, but he was also wise enough to know when to step back and let her explore the world on her own.
