Friends recall the driver who died in an accident Tuesday evening as a compassionate man who was always eager to assist others. Jonathan Rowe, the driver, was a safe driver who “was loved by many and will be terribly missed.” according to Tomas Leon.
Rowe, 39, was driving a white Ford sedan when it lost control and accelerated down Northwest 31st Avenue near Broward Boulevard, crashing through poles before tipping over and colliding with another vehicle, according to police.
“Jon was a great guy who was always willing and ready to help others. A final way that he helped others was by donating his tissue,” Leon added. Rowe was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he eventually died from his injuries, according to authorities.
Jerry Kelly, the motorist who was hit, told Local 10 that he was just slightly hurt. Rowe had no criminal record and no traffic violations, according to records.
“He was a lifelong mechanic who undoubtedly would have made any and all attempts to gain control and stop the vehicle, if he were able to,” Leon added.
It’s unclear if Rowe had a medical problem while driving.
The reason of the collision is still being investigated by Fort Lauderdale police.
