Jolyon Thompson Death – Centennial college has announced the death of Jolyon Thompson who passed away on Wednesday. He was the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association badminton head coach before he died. Jolyon was a joyful person who won the hearts of many. It was impossible to equal his level of passion, commitment, and enjoyment for the sport of badminton. He was a fantastic champion for his Student-Athletes, our program, and the sport of badminton. He placed the needs of others above his own at all times.
What happened to Jolyon Thompson?
Jolyon Thompson took over as the head coach of the Centennial College Colts Badminton Team, it was announced on September 6, 2016 by the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Centennial College. Stephen Wong, the previous head coach, stepped down and was replaced by Thompson in September 2016.
Mr. Thompson was an experienced coach who had worked in the Ontario University Athletics at the University of Toronto, the Port Hope Racquet Club, and the Ontario Winter Games with the Central Ontario Badminton Association. He held an NCCP level 2/3 coaching certification. Jolyon served as a badminton official at multiple major competitions, including the World Championships, the Pan American Championships, the Commonwealth Championships, and the Canadian Championships. Jolyon was also an active player, having competed in and won a gold at the World Senior and Master’s Games in 2013.
Condolences are been sent to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association, Centennial college, family members and friends of Jolyon Thompson. The family members are yet to announce his cause of death.
