Johnny Garness Accident – Johnny Garness, who is seen as one of the best hopes for the future of motorcycle racing in the UK, was in an accident on Tuesday, the last day of testing in Estoril. Reports say that Johnny Garness had an accident while testing in Estoril that broke his head and caused bleeding in the brain. On the last day of testing in Portugal, the 14-year-old got into an accident when he had a high side and was hit by a competitor who was close behind him.
“Unfortunately Johnny was involved in an incident during the final day of testing in Estoril on Tuesday,” read a statement on the VisionTrack Racing Facebook page. Taken to the medical centre, Garness has since been transferred to a hospital in Lisbon, where he is being monitored closely.
“On a fast lap, Johnny had a high side crash and was struck by another rider whilst on the ground. “Johnny was immediately treated at the circuit and transferred to a nearby hospital in Lisbon. Initial scans revealed a fractured skull and bleeding on his brain. “Johnny is being continually monitored, with surgeons confident he shouldn’t require surgery.” With luck and time Johnny should make a full recovery.
Garness won the British Talent Cup last year after a strong season in which he won 12 of 18 races. He is being coached by Michael Laverty’s VisionTrack Racing Academy, which has a team in the Moto3 World Championship this year. We ask that you give the family some space during this hard time.
