He died due to heart failure. Whitmire Fine Jewelry announced him dead in a post that reads “John Henry Whitmire, owner of Whitmire’s Fine Jewelry and a beloved longtime resident of Pawleys Island, died suddenly in his home on Wednesday, Jan. 18, due to heart failure”.

Since 1972, John Henry Whitmire, proprietor of Whitmire Fine Jewelry, has been designing and handcrafting jewelry on the coast of South Carolina. He was a longtime resident of Pawleys Island, South Carolina. He graduated from Easley High School and later went to study at University of South Carolina where he earned a degree in Creative Writing with a concentration in Metal Works & Design there. He went on to work as a metal worker and designer.
In addition to that, he received his schooling at the nationally renowned Penland School of Crafts, which is found in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. The Treasures of the Sea Collection and the Royal Sea Collection may be found at Whitmire Fine Jewelry, which is home to two unique collections. Both collections are manufactured entirely by hand by John Henry, who transforms each item into a one-of-a-kind memento of the shore.
