Who was Joey Johnson?
Joseph “Joey” Roscoe Johnson was born on May 12, 1988, in Granite City, Illinois. Joey attended Collinsville High School and studied law enforcement at Southwestern Illinois College. He worked as a security guard at FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing in Collinsville. He was an avid St. Louis sports fan, and passionate about horse racing and working the Kentucky Derby. He loved fishing and golfing with Grandpa Tim and his dad, and anything with his best friend, Jimmy McComas, and their group of friends.
He was the loving son of Mark Johnson of Collinsville, and Denise Millsap of Cuba, Missouri. He was a brother to Matthew Taylor, Daniel Millsap, and Daisy Millsap. He was also a step-brother to Rob Hayes, Zach Hayes, and, Susie Kerley. In addition to being incredibly attractive on the inside and out, Joey was also thoughtful, funny, and wise.
You could not find a person that loved Fairmount Park more than Joe. He truly cared for what was going on and the horseman. Joey had the kindest temperament and the most lovely grin, and his attitude was so positive that it lit up the room. In addition to his undivided attention, he will also provide you with the love and support you didn’t know you needed. Joey felt that spending time with his family was the most important thing. He had a reputation for having fun and for being able to brighten any space.
Joey Johnson’s obituary and memorial service
Memorial visitation will be 3 – 6 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, Illinois. Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Partners for Pets and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, Illinois 62062.
