Joel Tuoriniemi, Mohawk man died from injuries sustained in rollover accident

Mohawk Rollover Accident – A Mohawk man has died following a deadly rollover accident that happened early this morning. According to reports, the 50-year-old Mohawk man passed away from injuries sustained in the crash. At 2:10 a.m., the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call regarding a single-vehicle rollover crash with the driver trapped inside. The incident occurred as the individual was heading northbound on US 41.

Unfortunately, the vehicle lost control, veered across the center line, and ultimately rolled over, coming to rest against an unoccupied residence. The prompt response led to the successful extraction of the driver from the vehicle, who was subsequently transported to UP Health Systems Portage for medical attention.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. The crash remains under investigation, Joel Tuoriniemi has not been identified as the victim. The Keweenaw County Sheriff was assisted by MSP Calumet Post troopers, Houghton County Sheriff deputies, Allouez Township Fire and First Responders, and the Calumet Township Fire Department.
