About Joe Truman’s crash

Truman on the final lap of the keirin semi-final, crashed into Australian Matthew Glaetzer, who had initially fallen to the ground just before Truman got to the point where they both crashed. Truman sustained severe injuries and got his collarbone broken. He was taken out of the scene and he was assisted into a wheelchair by the emergency personnel and he was given oxygen. The team transported him to the hospital for treatment of the collarbone and brain injuries sustained.

Before being taken to the hospital, Truman was given an oxygen mask and pushed away in a wheelchair. He went through scans after recovering consciousness at the hospital. Prior to the crash the cyclist had previously had a set back of about two years. The incident is considered latest setback for for Truman who has been suffering back issues for the last two years, disqualifying him from competing in the Tokyo Olympics.

The crowd fell silent as Truman slid down the bank, and medical personnel flocked to his side. Truman finally sat up after a long struggle, to a loud applause from the crowd inside the velodrome. Carlin also confirmed the incident that happened to his housemate that sustained injuries, saying that over the course of Truman’s career, he has struggled with numerous ailments. Truman’s back injuries, according to Carlin, destroyed his Tokyo Olympics campaign.

Carlin while wishing Truman quick recovery said that “He’s a team-mate and I lived with him for a long time. Fortunately, he got up and is moving around, but he took a good hit to his head. Joe’s had many issues with injuries throughout his career, but he’s very strong-willed. I don’t know if I could have come back from the things that he’s come back from”
