JoAnne A. Epps Death – Temple University acting president JoAnne A. Epps has tragically passed away. She was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at around 3.15 pm by Temple University. According to reports, JoAnne A. Epps died after collapsing on stage during a memorial service at its Philadelphia campus on Tuesday. She was 72. During a press conference, Temple University’s Senior Vice President, Ken Kaiser, stated that the university had no prior knowledge of any health issues affecting Ms. Epps. Her sudden illness occurred while she was participating in a service for Charles L. Blockson, the curator of the Blockson Collection.

Temple University wrote on its Facebook page, “It is with deep heartbreak that we write to inform you that Temple University Acting President JoAnne A. Epps suddenly passed away this afternoon. There are no words that can describe the gravity and sadness of this loss. President Epps was a devoted servant and friend who represented the best parts of Temple.”

During her presence at a memorial service held at Temple University for Charles L. Blockson, the curator of the Blockson Collection, President Epps fell ill. She was subsequently taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Who was JoAnne A. Epps?

Ms. Epps, a graduate of Yale Law School, held positions as an assistant US attorney in Philadelphia and deputy city attorney in Los Angeles prior to joining Temple University, as outlined in her biography on the university’s website. In 2008, she assumed the role of dean at Temple Law School and later advanced to the position of executive vice president and provost of Temple University in 2016.

Following the resignation of the university’s first Black president, Jason Wingard, in April, she was appointed as acting president. Ms. Epps was noted for her advocacy for women and minorities within the legal field, as highlighted in her university biography. Additionally, she held leadership positions in organizations such as the American Bar Association, the National Association of Women Lawyers, and the American Law Institute. She was a dedicated servant and valued friend who embodied the finest attributes of Temple University.
