Jim bermingham Death – Former Ice Hockey player and ECHL hall of famer Jim Bermingham of Niagara Falls, Ontario is dead. He passed away on Wednesday 17th May 2023 leaving family, friends and colleagues devastated. He died at the age of 51. Knoxville Ice Bears  shared the news of his death in a post that reads “We are devastated to learn that former Ice Bears Head Coach Jim Bermingham passed away last night”. No cause of death has been known.

Jim Bermingham Career

Bermingham played in 500 games for the teams from Toledo, Wheeling, Huntington, Jackson, and Pensacola between 1992 and 2001. He is tied for 16th all-time in assists (362), 16th all-time in points (588) and 16th all-time in goals (226) in ECHL history. Bermingham spent nine years in the ECHL and has five seasons with 29 or more goals. His three selections to the ECHL All-Star Game throughout his career (1996, 1998, and 1999) are tied for the sixth most in the league’s history.

After hanging up his skates, Jim made a smooth transition into coaching and left an unforgettable impression on the Knoxville Ice Bears. Over the course of his four years as the team’s second coach in the annals of the franchise, he guided them to tremendous success. The Ice Bears accomplished a remarkable record of 129 victories, 85 defeats, and 10 ties while operating under his able direction.

It was largely due to Jim’s capable leadership that the team was able to win the regular season championship in 2005 and the President’s Cup championship as well as the regular season championship in 2006. Jim Bermingham had a fantastic career in hockey, and in 2019, he was recognized for it by being inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame. This distinction was well-deserved in light of Bermingham’s accomplishments in the sport.

Bermie was a member of the Ice Bears during their first season of operation and went on to coach the club for a total of four years, leading them to victory in the President’s Cup in 2006. He was a great inspiration to many even those he never knew.
