Jerry Houser Obituary, Death : Jerry Curtis Houser, 71, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA, from pancreatic cancer. Services will be held 11 am Friday, September 29, 2017, at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa, on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 11 am.
Jerry C. Houser was born November 10, 1945, in Centerville, IA, to Garland and Mary (Coffin) Houser. Jerry was a graduate of Centerville High School. He attended college a couple of years prior to joining the U.S. Navy for four years.
Jerry spent his entire career in the banking business with Iowa Des Moines National Bank aka Norwest Bank, now known as Wells Fargo Bank. Jerry was very dedicated in everything he did. His kind and loving personality earned him the respect and admiration of countless colleagues. He retired as Vice President of Business Banking on August 31, 2010, after 38 years of service.
Jerry loved spending time with his grandchildren, children, dogs (Jersey and Sadie), gardening and fishing. Loved breakfast and lunches with close friends and colleagues. He had a sense of humor that will be missed. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Johnston, serving on several committees.
He was also very active in DSM Host Lions Club and enjoyed driving for the Tissue Transport. Jerry was an avid Hawkeye fan, enjoyed attending games and spending time with friends. He was grateful for his family and the lifelong friendships he made over the years.
Jerry leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Glenna Houser; son, Jon C (Heather) Houser of Polk City, IA; daughter, Dena M (Drew) Vonnahme of Polk City, IA; grandchildren, Becca Houser (10), Caitlin Vonnahme (9), Jacob Houser (8), Devin Vonnahme (5), and Olivia Houser (17 months). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Rush.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Thursday, September 28, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Johnston. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, DSM Host Lions Club, or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
