Jennifer Broekhuizen Death – Dr Jennifer Broekhuizen, PharmD, RPH has tragically passed away in a deadly accident that also injured her son and husband Monday night. The Ferris State University graduate was killed in the accident that left her husband Tim with a broken hip bone and her son with a broken collar bone. The tragic accident happened Monday, Sept 4, 2023. Law enforcement agencies were called to the scene of a serious car crash. Arriving officers located Jennifer Broekhuizen dead, two others later identified as her husband and child were transported to the hospital.
According to a family member, the son was airlifted to DeVos Hospital in Grand Rapids in serious condition. The husband was transported to an area hospital in a serious but stable condition. “My dear friends,This is the hardest post I’ve ever made on Facebook. Last night our beautiful daughter Jennifer, her husband Tim and son Asher were in a car accident. Tim is in the hospital with a broken hip, is waiting to have his ankle X-rayed and his right hand is stitched up in several spots.”
Preliminary investigations determined that the car their were travelling in entered a path and veered off the road killing the licensed Dr Jennifer Broekhuizen. The family and friends of the respected woman has called for prayers for those she left behind and for quick recovery for her son and husband.

The wrong-way driver was spotted on I-87 in Lewis, Essex County, on September 4, 2023, according to the State Police. When police tried to pull the driver over, he refused to stop and crashed into another vehicle. There were major injuries and one fatality among the occupants of both automobiles. This caused Interstate 87 southbound lanes between exits 33 and 32 to be shut down. Exit 33 was closed to traffic as authorities investigated and cleaned up the scene. The accident is being investigated by the State Police with assistance from Troop B BCI and Troop B CRU.
The units in question are experts in investigating traffic accidents. Local fire and rescue services and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office are also contributing. The accident investigation, vehicle removal, and cleanup are still under progress. Until these duties are completed, the southbound lanes will remain restricted. Drivers should choose other routes since typical traffic has been disrupted. The cause of the crash is still being investigated. The officials are making an effort to piece together what happened before the tragic crash. As of yet, neither the victim’s identification nor the potential accusations against the wrong-way motorist have been disclosed.
