Death: A UW professor has been identified as an avalanche victim – Jay Norton, a professor at the University of Wyoming, perished in an avalanche while backcountry skiing in the Teton Range on Thursday, the school reported on Monday.
According to wyomingnews.com, Norton was caught in an avalanche near Victor, Idaho, in the Game Creek drainage on the western slope of the range.
UW President Ed Seidel said, “We have lost a talented and beloved member of our community.” “As we all mourn his passing, our hearts go out to his friends and family.”
Another skier was buried, possibly in the same avalanche, according to the Colorado Avalanche Center. According to the Teton Valley News, the other skier was eventually rescued and evacuated by Teton County Search and Rescue.
