The motorcyclist, identified as Jay Markwell of Wichita, was transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Initial reports indicated that the motorcyclist had sustained serious injuries in the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol detailed that the 2006 Harley-Davidson was traveling at an excessive speed when it struck a barrier wall crash dampener on the northbound I-235 ramp from West Kellogg.
