Jay Markwell Death, Wichita Man Dies After Motorcycle Accident On I-235 Ramp: A 62-year-old man has died following a motorcycle crash on a highway ramp in west Wichita on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on the ramp from westbound Kellogg to northbound I-235. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the man was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was traveling too fast to safely navigate the curve of the ramp. As a result, the motorcycle struck the barrier wall.
The motorcyclist, identified as Jay Markwell of Wichita, was transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Initial reports indicated that the motorcyclist had sustained serious injuries in the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol detailed that the 2006 Harley-Davidson was traveling at an excessive speed when it struck a barrier wall crash dampener on the northbound I-235 ramp from West Kellogg.
