Javonte Askew killed in northeast Fresno shooting

Javonte Askew, 28, was shot and murdered outside of a residence in northeast Fresno early Wednesday morning, according to authorities. Just before 5 a.m., a fatal gunshot occurred near Holland Avenue and Fresno Street, north of Ashlan Avenue.

According to investigators, Askew was bringing his trash cans out into the street when he was shot. With many gunshot wounds, Askew was brought to Community Regional Medical Center, where he subsequently died.

According to police, more than 20 bullets were discharged. The incident is thought to be gang-related, according to detectives.
