Jason Lawner known to many as Jay Bird died tragically in a Utah ski accident this past weekend. He was known for his passion, enthusiasm, and clarity. “Our hearts are so heavy as we share some heartbreaking news. Yesterday, our own beloved Jason Lawner left this earth,” according to a statement released by Mosaic Yoga.

Mosaic Yoga confirmed that Jason Lawner of Salt Lake City, Utah died in a deadly ski accident. No further information was mentioned. The details surrounding the accident were not stated. “We are all a bit in shock and reeling from this devastating news. We are planning to hold a candlelight vigil of some sort this Thursday at 5 pm at Mosaic/TLC (his regular teaching slot). We will let you know more details as they form.”
Who was Jason Lawner?
Jason Lawner was born in Los Angeles, California, and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. He worked as a Yoga Teacher at Mosaic Yoga and as a Realtor, Real Estate Consultant at KW Salt Lake City Keller Williams Real Estate. He was a trumpet player who attended The Frost School of Music at The University of Miami. Not so much a hidden talent as a skill that many yoga practitioners are unaware of.
Jason and his wife relocated from Miami, Florida, after she was accepted into a PhD program at the University of Utah. They were considering a few other cities, but Snowbird’s proximity to world-class climbing and endless outdoor adventure made the decision easy. Jason enjoys being outside, active, and involved in some kind of adventure. Climbing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, camping, biking, and learning new skills.
He also enjoys cooking and grew up learning how to make reduction sauces in the French style of his father’s family. As a teacher, Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his work. His dynamic and challenging yoga classes weave precise alignment instructions with a light-hearted uplifting message that emphasizes the practical application of yoga to our modern-day lives.
