James Walsh Death – James Walsh, the founding member of the Gypsy band has passed away. James Walsh died unexpectedly this Saturday afternoon, the 4th of March 2023. He has been ill for some time now and many thought he was going to push through it again. “Know that you guys were very important to him – every single one of you. He passed peacefully and I’m sure he’s either playing music or golf right now.”
Who was James Walsh?
A track by James Walsh Gypsy Band, “Lookin’ Up I See,” was featured on the NTS show “Patrick Forge” on July 24, 2017. James Walsh, originally from Minnesota, moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s and released four albums with the band Underbeats and later Gypsy. The first two albums, “self-titled” and “In the Garden,” are fantastic representations of progressive rock. Gypsy dissolved in 1975. James formed this brand-new band and released a single album with them.
The song “Cuz it’s you, girl” is the best on the album. Mpls music lost a legend when James Walsh passed away. The Stunning Del Counts and Gypsy. A talented musician, he excelled in his field. To put it simply, Jawas mes Walsh was a gentle, caring human being who contributed to the creation of some of the world’s most beautiful music. Here in the Twin Cities, he was a big deal.
About Gypsy Band
Gypsy was an American progressive rock band from Minnesota, formed as The Underbeats (1962–1968). Gypsy was the house band at the Whisky a Go Go, West Hollywood, California from September 1969 to April 1971 and were known in 1970 for their US Billboard Hot 100 single “Gypsy Queen Part 1”, which peaked at #62.
Most of Gypsy’s music was composed and written by guitarist and singer Enrico Rosenbaum. Drummer Bill Lordan went on to play with Sly & the Family Stone and a long career with Robin Trower. Keyboardist James Walsh continued the band in various incarnations as The James Walsh Gypsy Band. The James Walsh Gypsy Band had one Hot 100 entry in 1978 with, “Cuz, It’s You Girl” which peaked at #71.
