James MacEgan Death — According to the Roseville police, the individual who is suspected of opening fire on a California Highway Patrol officer and two hostages on Thursday, April 6th, 2023, at Roseville’s Mahany Park in the state of California has been identified. When the day took a tragic turn as Eric Abril raced from cops and finally took two people hostage at the park, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was seeking for him to execute a search warrant relating to a shooting that occurred on a freeway.
Suspect arrested and charged
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a statement on Friday indicating that Abril is facing felony charges; however, they did not elaborate on the allegations he is facing that are unrelated to the shooting. According to Captain Kelby Newton of the Roseville Police Department, everything began on Thursday at approximately 12:30 p.m. when a CHP task force officer reported hearing shots fired and a CHP officer who was executing a warrant was injured.
Before being sent to the hospital, the California Highway Patrol officer was treated for his injuries by firefighters who responded from the neighboring Station 5 and carried him into the station. When further law enforcement personnel arrived at the location, they were met by Abril, who was still armed with a firearm and attempting to elude capture by the officers.
Suspect shot two hostage
According to the police, Abril took two individuals hostage, and then he got into a shootout with the police, which resulted in him becoming hurt and being taken into custody. Between the time when the officer was shot and when Abril was taken into custody, at least two other persons were shot, and one of them died at the site. James MacEgan was ultimately determined to be the victim who died at the scene.
Since then, the CHP officer has been discharged from the hospital, while local officials have reported that the other hostage is currently in critical condition in the hospital. According to the documents filed in the court system, Abril has a lengthy criminal history in Santa Clara County stretching all the way back to the year 2007.
James MacEgan’s obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by the family at a later date.
