James Knapp Cause Of Death, Obituary Unavailable Yet – A Sandy Hook resident was pronounced dead late Saturday night in New Fairfield, according to state police. Newtown First Selectman Dan Rosenthal was among those who expressed surprise after learning of the stabbing death of local citizen James Knapp, 65.
According to the report, Patrick A. Griffin (DOB 12/06/1962) was transferred to Danbury Hospital and later arrested by officers from the Western District Major Crime squad. Griffin was taken to State Police Troop A and charged with first-degree manslaughter.
As reported by newtownbee.com, Griffin is being jailed on a $1 million bond until his arraignment on Monday. Troopers and New Fairfield cops were dispatched to a Hillview Drive East residence at 9:22 p.m. after a suspected active assault. Knapp was found with a stab wound and transferred to Danbury Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.
Knapp was the father of Newtown Legislative Councilman Ryan Knapp, a Tech Ed teacher at Pomperaug High School.
Ryan Knapp told The Newtown Bee on Sunday afternoon that the incident has crushed his family. Rosenthal, who was contacted by The Bee shortly after learning of the event, expressed gratitude to the extended Knapp family for “giving so much to Newtown.”
“My heartfelt sympathies to the entire family,” remarked the first selectman. The accused was the resident of the house where the event occurred, according to preliminary findings.
