On May 6, 1946, he was born in Lithonia, Georgia. He worked as a salesperson until he was 36 years old, at which point he started introducing acts at The Punch Line comedy club in Atlanta. It was on February 17, 1982 that he performed his debut main performance at the Punch Line.[4]:
