A mother and her 7-year-old boy from California were discovered dead last week after the mother’s 3-year-old toddler reported them missing, according to authorities. Just after 7:45 p.m., authorities received a report of the missing couple. The U.S. Coast Guard released a statement saying that on Wednesday, a 3-year-old kid informed a “good Samaritan” that his mother was missing.
Shortly after, close to a boat launch in Moss Landing, about 20 miles north of Monterey County, firefighters discovered the boy’s mother, Florencia Ramirez-Urbano. According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, Ramirez was taken to a hospital and later declared dead. After that, investigators learned that the lady had another kid, a boy aged seven, who was also missing at the time.
Thursday and Friday were spent conducting searches for the missing kid until his corpse was located on Saturday by Coast Guard crews. According to SFGATE, the authorities have not disclosed how Ramirez and her son came to be in the water, but they speculated that the kid may have started to drown before his mother entered the water to save him.
