Irma Dezen Death – On Friday, 8th of July, 2022, Irma Dezen, 93, and native of Cumberland, MD, passed away at her home surrounded by her family and friends. No cause of death was mentioned. On the 19th of October, 1928, she was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to parents e late Dr. Harry Julius Kalet and Sally Helen (Rosen) Kalet.
Irma earned BAs in English and a foreign language from the University of Pittsburgh. She received summa cum laude honors and was the class valedictorian. She achieved her goal of becoming a public educator, and from 1965 until 1990, she had a renowned career teaching French and Spanish at Braddock Middle School. The years Irma spent teaching were her happiest years. Everyone could see how well-connected she was with her students.
Irma participated actively in her neighborhood. For more than 40 years, she co-owned and assisted in running Ray’s Jewelers, a business run by her family. She was active in the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center, the western Allegany Kiwanis Club, the Allegany County Music and Arts Club, and the Allegany County Retired Teachers Association. Irma belonged to both the Jewish Women’s Organization, Hadassah, and the B’er Chaymin Temple.

Love you bunches sweetheart.” Carol Swygert Dupree reacted to her death on social media.
Irma had a keen eye for fashion and an immaculate sense of style. She was always dressed to the nines and adored gorgeous clothes, jewelry, hats, and shoes. She personified elegance and grace. Playing “competitive” games of Mah-jongg with her closest pals was Irma’s favorite pastime. She also delighted in writing lovely personal letters to friends and coworkers as well as shopping, reading, watching movies, and going to the cinema. She was an incredible mother, devoted friend, outstanding teacher, astute businesswoman, and exceptional human being.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dezen, sister Doris Herron and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Irma is survived by her sons: Rick Dezen and Eddie Dezen; and her daughter, Barbie Corwell and husband, Russ.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center 1001 Prince George’s Blvd, Ste 750, Upper Marlboro, MD, 20774 or to the Hadassah 40 Wall Street 8th Floor, New York, NY, 10005. Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, is handling arrangements. Interment will be in East View Cemetery.
