Ian Spendlove Cause Of Death, Obituary Not Yet Available – Officials say a 13-year-old kid died after becoming trapped beneath the sand at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.
According to kutv.com, Ian Spendlove, of Santa Clara, died when park rangers said he was building a tunnel in the side of a sand dune when it collapsed abruptly, trapping him inside.
On Saturday, shortly after 5:30 p.m., the building collapsed. A family member who saw the collapse alerted others, including state park officials, to start excavating right away to find Spendlove.
Soon after, a park ranger and Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived with shovels to help. Spendlove was discovered about six and a half feet beneath the sand soon after 5:50 p.m.
First responders performed CPR on Spendlove and determined that he had a pulse. He was then flown to St. George Regional Hospital and subsequently to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City via Life Flight.
“Unfortunately, Spendlove did not restore brain activity on Sunday, and he was proclaimed deceased,” officials stated in a statement. “The Utah Division of State Parks expresses its heartfelt condolences to Ian Spendlove’s friends and family members who have been affected by this tragedy.”
The incident is still being investigated.
