UPDATE: Hotel Chicago Shooting Today – After a pistol went off in a hotel room in River North on Saturday afternoon, officials say a Michigan police officer has been taken into custody as a result of the incident. At approximately 3:10 in the afternoon, an off-duty police officer, who was 23 years old and from the Grand Rapids region, was in a hotel room with another male, who was 25 years old. Both men were staying in the 300 block of North Dearborn Street.
According to the police, the younger man was in possession of a firearm when it discharged, wounding both him and the older man. The off-duty police officer, who had been shot in the hand, was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his status was listed as fair. The other victim, who had been shot in the stomach, was also sent to the same hospital, where his condition was described as “fair.” The cop is currently being held in custody, and formal charges are being prepared. Two firearms were located by law enforcement at the site, and the investigation is currently being led by Area Three investigators.
PREVIOUSLY: Hotel Chicago Shooting Today – A shooting took place in the afternoon of May 27th, 2023, at the Hotel Chicago Downtown in River North. Two persons were injured in the incident. One of them was an off-duty police officer from Michigan. According to Larry Langford, the Director of Media Affairs for the Chicago Fire Department, paramedics arrived at the hotel located at 333 North Dearborn Street just after 3 o’clock in the afternoon and found a police officer and another person wounded by gunfire.
According to Langford, the officer was reportedly in a healthy condition when last checked in at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The male victim who had been shot twice was transferred to the same hospital as the first victim in critical condition. Officials from the fire department have stated that they are unknown what caused the incident. The Chicago Police Department did not share any information regarding the shooting right away.
The police agency did not immediately disclose the identities of the officer and the other individual involved in the incident. There was no suspect information revealed and no arrests were made.
