Henry Tomasic Shawnee KS Obituary, Cause Of Death: Henry Joseph Tomasic was born on February 9, 2001, in Merriam, Kansas, and died on May 11, 2024, in Lawrence, Kansas. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many, leaving behind cherished memories that will be remembered forever.
Henry, 23, changed the lives of everyone around him with his compassionate nature and unwavering determination. Henry worked hard to achieve his academic goals while studying at the University of Kansas. His work at Blind Box BBQ and Tropical Smoothie Cafe demonstrated his excellent work ethic and approachable nature. He completed two professional accounting internships: at Myers and Stauffer and Security Benefit.
Henry genuinely enjoyed learning. It wasn’t just about mastering a talent or fixing a problem for him; it was about the excitement of discovery, uncovering the universe’s mysteries one small revelation at a time. And in his humble pursuit of knowledge, he motivated everyone around him to do the same. Henry was extremely interested in astronomy, and he even built his own telescope out of materials acquired at Home Depot and online.
He cherished his cat Lucina and enjoyed golf, soccer, tennis, swimming, skateboarding, watching Chiefs football, and rooting for Jayhawk basketball and football teams. In 2022, Henry drove to New Orleans to personally cheer on the Jayhawks to their National Championship. Henry’s involvement as president of Phi Kappa Tau and the St. John’s Men’s Club demonstrated his dedication to leadership and community.
Henry’s education began at Broken Arrow Elementary School and went to Trailridge Middle School. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 2019 and will graduate from the University of Kansas in 2024. He competed on the varsity tennis team, as well as swimming and soccer. Henry was an extraordinary student who reached key milestones such as an ACT score of 35, National Merit Scholar: Commended, the Chancellor’s scholarship, and a consistent spot on the Dean’s list. His academic results were a reflection of his hard work and dedication.
Henry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dr. William G. Osoba and Barbara Osoba, his aunt Jan Osoba Bosserman, cousin Grant Nelson, and grand “friend” Diane Hudyka. He is survived by his parents, Pucka O. Tomasic and Mark J. Tomasic, and stepmother, April Tomasic; twin sisters, Sophie Tomasic and Lila Tomasic; younger brother, Frank Tomasic, and stepbrothers Matthew and Quinten Wittenauer; paternal grandparents, Nick and Karolyn Tomasic; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17th, at Shawnee Presbyterian Church, 6837 Nieman Road in Shawnee. A private burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee.
