Helix High School Lockdown Today – Late on the morning of Friday, April 28, 2023, the Helix High School located in La Mesa, California, went into lockdown mode after receiving a report of a person who may be in the area with a firearm. During this time, the La Mesa police investigated the situation. As time went on, it became clear that the report contained false information. There was little that could be confirmed right away.
At 11:35 in the morning, the police department tweeted that officers were currently stationed at the school located south of University Avenue. In addition, the department sent out a notice via Nixle, asking residents to stay away from the area. At 12:15 in the afternoon, the department sent out a tweet stating that it had investigated the report of a person with a weapon and determined that it was unfounded.
Parents and guardians of students at the school have taken to social media to declare that their children are currently under lockdown, despite the fact that the police have not confirmed this. According to a sheriff’s watch commander, sheriff’s deputies would normally respond to a report of an active shooter; however, they were neither contacted nor dispatched to the scene of the incident.

According to the La Mesa Police Department, a guy was shot by another man on Memorial Day in the parking lot of Helix High School and sustained injuries. According to LMPD, they received a call of gunshots near a Helix High School parking lot at about 6:20 p.m. on May 30, 2022, close to Lowell Street and Normal Avenue. According to a news release from Sgt. Daniel Herrin, two vehicles were reportedly observed departing the parking area after gunshots were fired. Since the school was closed for Memorial Day, neither students nor teachers were present on the premises at the time of the shooting.
Officers scouring the area around the shooting scene found one of the vehicles on the 4200 block of Parks Avenue in La Mesa, according to the police. Officers arrived and discovered a man who had been shot in the leg. After that, Herrin added, he was sent to a neighboring hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. The victim and the shooting suspect’s relationship is now unknown, as well as their initial purpose for visiting the school’s parking lot.
According to the LMPD, the alleged shooter was an Asian man in his 20s who was sporting a white tank top and blue pants when the incident occurred. When he left the parking lot, the suspect is said to have been driving a mid-2000s Toyota sedan in tan or gold, or a similar vehicle, according to police. According to Herrin, neither of the males was thought to be associated with Helix High School.
