Head-on Collision kills Springfield-Area Woman On Illinois 97: Late on Saturday night, a truck on Illinois 97 in Menard County struck a Petersburg woman’s minivan head-on, resulting in a two-vehicle tragedy that claimed her life. The 60-year-old was declared deceased in the emergency department of Springfield Memorial Hospital after being transported there by ambulance.
In order to give her family notice, her identity hasn’t been released, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon. The woman was traveling south on Illinois 97 north of North Shore Drive when the driver of a pickup truck crossed the centerline and struck the head of her minivan at approximately ten o’clock in the evening, according to Illinois State Police. The location is adjacent to New Salem State Park in Lincoln.
An email from the ISP stated that two more people received medical attention for injuries. Monday has been set aside for an autopsy, according to Allmon. The coroner’s office and ISP are still looking into the death.
