Two people were found dead inside a shipping container on a train in Uvalde County on Friday; investigators suspect they were migrants who had crossed into Texas from Mexico. Thirteen other persons, including at least five in critical condition, were also found inside the container. The train was heading through an area of Texas where illegal immigrants frequently cross the border when it was stopped by U.S. Border Patrol authorities near the town of Knippa.
Uvalde’s police chief, Daniel Rodriguez, said that at 3:50 p.m., someone dialed 911 and reported that 12 to 15 people were severely dehydrated and trapped inside a hot shipping container in an area where spring temperatures have hovered around 80 degrees in recent days. Uvalde is located about 11 miles west of Knippa.
The mayor of Uvalde, Don McLaughlin Jr., who was briefed by authorities, said that it was unclear whether the call came from inside the container or whether one of the persons trapped inside had managed to call a relative and plead for help.
Hallie Grossman obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by family members
