How did the crash happen?

This morning at 8:16, an incident occurred in the vicinity of SR 303 and Kirby Lane involving 21-year-old Griffin Belden from Kent. Griffin was driving his 2013 Kia eastbound on SR 303 when he veered left of center and collided with a westbound semi tractor-trailer. The impact caused Griffin’s Kia to veer off the south side of the road and catch fire.

Fortunately, a Good Samaritan happened to be nearby with a fire extinguisher and managed to put out the fire before it reached Griffin. However, due to the severity of his injuries, the Streetsboro Fire Department had to extricate Griffin from the Kia. He was then rushed to Akron City Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Griffin later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the semi was a 61-year-old male from Cleveland who attempted to avoid the collision, but there wasn’t enough time to prevent the accident. As a result of the collision, the semi went off the north side of the road, partially overturning and striking a telephone pole, leading to a power outage and a minor diesel spill. As of now, the crash is still under investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.

Griffin Belden obituary and funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by the family.
