Who was Graham Thurlow?
Graham Thurlow, better known to the majority of people as Cilla, was a life member of the Pocklington Cricket Club. A fan favorite at the rugby club as well as the cricket club, where he was a member for many years and also volunteered his time playing and working behind the scenes. Cilla was an all-round player in cricket, and if you’ve ever spoken to him, you’ve probably heard the story of how he bowled Collis King for a golden duck back in his prime with an unplayable delivery.
He could also deliver with the bat, once hitting 34 runs in an over and only missing out on six sixes by a matter of inches. If you’ve ever spoken to him, you’ve probably also heard that story. Cilla contributed to the coaching of younger teams at Pock, where he also served as an umpire and scorekeeper for several years. Cilla was known for having a large and generous heart, and he was always willing to lend a hand on the cricket or rugby field whenever he could. Everyone who knew him will grievously miss him, but his life and the stories he told will not be forgotten.
