Glenn Lockett Death – Famous SST Records Producer and Engineer Glenn Lockett who was also known as Spot has sadly passed away. He died on Saturday 4th March 2023 at the age of 71. He was pronounced dead at Morningside Healthcare in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The news of his death was known through a post that says “Sad news that a real pioneer of the early recording days, SPOT (real name Glenn Lockett), Engineer and Producer on our classic EARTH A.D. album, passed away today”.

What happened to Glenn Lockett?

The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of his death has nit been made public at this time. His time as house producer and engineer at the seminal independent punk label SST Records was essential in establishing his reputation as a top-tier music producer. Glenn Michael Lockett was born on July 1, 1951 in the Greater Los Angeles region to a mother of European origin and a father of African-American descent. He and his older sister Cynthia grew up in an affluent section of Hollywood.

ockett’s father was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen and served in the military during World War II. Lockett relocated to Hermosa Beach in the 1970s from Hollywood. He met Greg Ginn while they were both employed at a vegetarian eatery called Garden of Eden. Using the pen name Spot, Lockett contributed record reviews to Easy Reader as a freelance writer.

Glenn Lockett Career

He became friends with Ginn and eventually filled in on bass for Panic, the band that would evolve into Black Flag. Spot recorded, mixed, produced, or co-produced the vast majority of SST’s most significant performers between 1979 and 1986. Music by him can be found on albums by such groups as Black Flag, Minutemen, Mood of Defiance, Meat Puppets, Hüsker Dü, Saint Vitus, Misfits (Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood), and Descendants.

Following his 1986 resignation from SST, Spot moved to Austin, Texas.  In a book titled Sounds of Two Eyes Opening, Spot, a talented photographer, showcased his work. His photographs were included in an exhibition at the Pacific Coast Gallery in Hermosa Beach, California, in 2018.
