Gina Pellettiere Death | Beatrice Ferarri Death – A bus transporting students to band camp overturned, officials said, resulting in the deaths of two adults and injuries to more than forty others on Thursday afternoon in New York state. The fatal collision occurred at 1:15 p.m. on Interstate 84 in Wawayanda, approximately 75 miles north of New York City.
State officials announced Thursday evening at a news conference that five students were in critical condition after a school bus carrying 40 students and four adults from Long Island’s Farmingdale School District plummeted down a 50-foot ravine. Gina Pellettiere, 43, of Massapequa, and Beatrice Ferarri, 77, of Farmingdale, died in the collision.
Governor Kathy Hochul of New York stated that families are in mourning after the crash. Hochul stated that the accident may have been caused by a defective front tire. She emphasized that the results are preliminary. In coordination with the New York State Police, the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the fatal collision. A district spokesperson stated that the Farmingdale students and chaperones were bound to band camp in Pennsylvania.
