Toronto Police Officer Suicide – The Toronto Police are mourning the loss of a long-standing member who, according to official reports, tragically died by suicide on Tuesday, the 20th of June 2023. Chief Myron Demkiw said, “We are heartbroken.” He was a perfect example of what it means to be a wonderful person. He had a calming presence and was extremely kind, he touched the hearts of so many and was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
Chief Myron Demkiw said: “The officer, 26 years with the service, is survived by his wife and sons to whom we offer our deepest condolences and support.” The chief also said, “In the face of unimaginable tragedy we encourage you to make use of the mental health and wellbeing resources and tools the service offers.”
Toronto Police Association President Jon Reid, along with the chief, visited the residence of the officer’s family. In a communication addressed to TPA members, Reid expressed his commitment to collaborate with the service in offering unwavering assistance to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues, recognizing the immense challenges they are facing. Officer Fred Wadden of the Toronto Police has not been identified as the victim of the tragic incident.
In recent years, there have been unfortunate instances of self-inflicted deaths among Toronto Police officers. However, it is important to note that in this particular situation, the officer’s passing did not occur while on duty or within a Toronto Police facility. Reid to his members wrote, “Policing is an honourable and heroic profession but today we have a stark reminder of the long-lasting effects and devastating impact it can have.”
