Floyd Wright Death – Floyd Wright, Legendary Hartford Radio Personality and long-time Connecticut broadcaster passed away on Sunday, April 30th, 2023. He was 72 years old at the time of his death. “Friendly Floyd,” as he was popularly known had been part of the WJMJ Radio family since 2014, serving as the weekday afternoon drive host. He was announced dead on Monday, May 1st, 2023, through social media publications. The cause of his death was not mentioned.
Who was Floyd Wright?
Floyd Wright was a native of Wallingford, Connecticut, and a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. He attended Emerson College. He acquired the moniker Friendly Floyd early in his professional life as a Radio Personality and DJ. He was a pleasant and sarcastic coworker and listener who was also quite knowledgeable about radio. He was a true legend of broadcasting. Because Floyd loved to play music and interact with people, he was able to make a career out of radio without ever retiring.
Floyd owned PM Drive and worked the majority of his career (20+ years) at Country 92.5 in Hartford. Among his professional achievements were participating in teams that helped St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital raise more than $10 million and acting as both a host and “therapist” for listeners on September 11, 2001, and in the weeks that followed.

He cared more about people and their well-being than anyone else. More importantly, Floyd will give you his full attention and all the love and support you never knew you needed. He thought it was most important to spend time with his family. He cherished his wife Susan Netupski Wright. Floyd was a former On-Air Personality at Buckley Radio and a former On-Air Personality at iHeartMedia Inc.
He was a former Afternoon Drive at 102.9 WDRC-FM Radio/Buckley Broadcasting of Connecticut and a former On-Air Talent at WYNY 103.5 & 97.1. He worked as a DJ at Buckley Radio Syracuse, and Buckley Radio California and was a former DJ/Voice Talent for WDRC-FM, WDRC-AM, WWCO-AM, WSNG-AM, WMMW-AM, WDRC-FM HD2, WDRC-FM HD 3. at Buckley Radio. He spent more than 20 years in afternoon drive, WDRC-F/HARTFORD, and ARCHDIOCESE OF HARTFORD-owned WJMJ-F, where he worked since 2014.
