According to the bureau, once they arrived, they found Brandy McCaslin, who was 39 years old at the time, armed and barricaded inside the Verdigris residence. According to the OSBI, after a standoff that lasted for three hours, the police then started negotiating with McCaslin. Officers went into the house after waiting for a response but getting none.
According to the bureau, when authorities entered the residence, they found McCaslin dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the home, along with the bodies of her three children, ages ten months, six years, and eleven years old. All of the children had been shot to death. The investigation led to the conclusion that McCaslin shot and killed her three children before turning the gun on herself, according to the police. Investigations into the incident will continue to be carried out by both the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Verdigris Police Department.
