Evacuation Implemented After Sixty-Six Fire burns 30 Acres – Evacuation has been enforced after Sixty-Six Fire has burned over 30 acres near Carnuel. This fire has affected numerous buildings and at least one residence has been completely destroyed. Firefighters have extinguished the ‘Sixty-Six Fire‘s forward movement south of Route 66 but I-40. According to the report, Westbound I-40 is open west of the on-ramp from Route 66 at Carnuel. It is closed east of there. Eastbound I-40 is still on lock out. Only one lane is said to be open on 66. The PNM are also attempting to clear power lines from the roadway.
According to report, the fire perimeter is far from the transmission line and is not currently of concern, According to authorities power will be restored after survey of the line by PNM employees. Authorities advise those evacuated from the area to travel to Albuquerque until emergency crews are able to put out the fire. A representative for Bernalillo County Fire reports that state and federal forestry employees, as well as crews from Bernalillo County and Albuquerque Fire and Rescue, are currently working on the scene. health advisory has been issued for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County due to smoke billowing in the area until 9 am on Friday.
Black Fire Erupted In New Mexico
A wildfire was reported on May 13, 2022 in the Gila National Forest in southwest New Mexico. The Black fire erupted in the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Area in the Black Range, about 30 miles northwest of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. On May 16, the fire blew up, tripling in size from 18,000 acres to more than 56,000 acres. According to report ,half a million acres was burnt in early season wildland fires and some forecasts suggested that the situation would get worse through the months. The Black fire burnt more than 130,000 acres as of May 22 which makes it the second-largest fire in the state.
