Eunice Friedly Obituary

Eunice Emma Friedly, 95, of Sedalia, formerly of Ionia, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. She was born on December 30, 1926, on a farm north of Ionia, Missouri, a daughter of Walter Green and Eula B. (Pittman) Howery.

She attended her first eight years at Manila School in southern Pettis County and graduated from Cole Camp High School. A month after graduation, she began employment at the Bank of Ionia. It was during World War II and the bank issued mills to businesses and sold war bonds.

On February 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to John David Friedly, Jr. at Epworth Methodist Church parsonage in Sedalia by Pastor Ralph Emmerson Hurd. In 1961, she was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Ionia by Rev. Sipes.

After working at the bank five and a half years, she decided it was time to help her husband raise broilers and also be with her growing family. She always found time to raise a big garden so she could can and freeze food for the winter. The girls learned early to hull peas while watching television. They all helped with canning and household chores; and they each learned how to butcher chickens and turkeys.

In 1970, she started working again at the Bank of Ionia and retired in 1987, shortly after the bank became First Community Bank. She spent many happy hours with the grandchildren and then the great-grandchildren.

Eunice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ionia until moving to Sedalia in 2001, where she was a member of New Bethel Church. She remained active in the church until her health began to fail. She helped with Bible school, Methodist Youth Ministries, and the annual Ionia turkey dinner and was a member of the WSCS and UMW. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, reading, sewing, needlework, traveling, and watching the Molly B. Polka Show on RFD-TV on Saturdays.

She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Jensen and Gary of Kansas City, Elaine Friedly of Windsor, Carolyn Rupe and Richard of Green Ridge, Patricia Wright and Robert of Kansas City; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Rupe, Joshua Rupe, Cody Perkins, Teresa Rice, Kristin Moore, Karla Lewis, and David Wright; and sixteen great-grandchildren, Peyton Rice, Megan Rice, Mikaylee Rupe, Aspen Rupe, Cathy Perkins, Erin Perkins, Cale Moore, Cierra Lewis, Aiden Lewis, Kolten Lewis, Emma Lewis, Finnlee Rupe, Sawyer Rupe, Lila Rupe, Isaac Van Gordon, and Jacob Corley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eula Howery, her husband, John D. Friedly, Jr., her brother, Leonard Howery, and a great-grandson, Bentley Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp with Pastor Deb Galey officiating. Burial will be in Christian Cemetery in Ionia. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Rupe, Joshua Rupe, Cody Perkins, David Wright, Michael Rice, Chris Moore, and Joshua Lewis.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to New Bethel Church or Ionia United Methodist Church in care of the Fox Funeral Home, PO Box 37, Cole Camp, Missouri 65325.
