Eric Newman and Christopher Foster Death – A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, July 26th, 2023, at a Lake Koocanusa boat launch in Rexford, resulting in the deaths of two men. According to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), the deceased individuals were identified as a 40-year-old man from Oregon named Eric Newman and a 51-year-old man from Kalispell named Christopher Foster.

Law enforcement authorities, including LCSO deputies and Eureka Police Department officers, responded to a report of a shooting at the Rexford Bench boat launch around 3:15 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered that a verbal altercation had taken place between Eric Newman and Christopher Foster while they were loading their boats at the ramp. The situation escalated, and Foster allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Newman.
After the shooting, Foster fled to the parking area and was later found in his vehicle with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tragically, both men succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and authorities have received assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Eureka Volunteer Ambulance during the response.
