Emily Breidenbach Death – Emily Breidenbach, an officer with the Cheek, Wisconsin police department passed away tragically on Saturday, April 8th, 2023. The news of her death was shared on social media on Sunday, April 9th, by Courage Incorporated through a social media post that read “We’re very saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Officer Emily Breidenbach of the Cheek, WI police department. Emily was an engaging officer in her community, a wonderful friend to many, and she had a generous heart.”
Emily Breidenbach’s cause of death
Authorities said that two Wisconsin police officers were murdered on Saturday during a gunshot that occurred during a traffic stop. Late on Saturday, the Wisconsin Department of Justice announced that it was looking into the shooting in Cameron, Wisconsin. According to the state justice department, a traffic check by a Chetek Police Department officer resulted in gunfire being fired by the driver at some time.
Both the Cameron cop and the Chetek officer were declared dead at the scene. The shooting suspect was transferred to a hospital where he eventually passed away, according to the justice department. Numerous family members, past coworkers, and friends identified Emily Breidenbach as one of the officers killed. She was Robert Breidenbach’s (a former police chief) daughter. She spent a lot of time working with young people in the neighborhood, visiting local schools with a K-9 named “Officer Grizzly,” and supporting the Chetek Youth Center.
The other officer was identified as Hunter Scheel. The suspect was not immediately identified. The inquiry is being conducted by the Division of Criminal Inquiry of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, which will also deliver a report to the Barron County district attorney once it is finished, according to the statement.

Hunter Scheel was identified by his beloved family through a social media publication. “My cousin Hunter Scheel, he was the Cameron officer shot and killed yesterday, Thank you for your service. RIP” Cindy Scheel wrote on Facebook as she shared the devastating news with the public. Cindy Scheel said their family was having her brother’s celebration of life when this tragic incident occurred. He was the beloved son of Jessica Janota.
Prayers to victims’ families
The Marinette County Deputy Sheriff’s Association said in a Facebook post: “Tonight our hearts are heavy as we send our thoughts and prayers to the Village of Cameron Police Department, the City of Chetek Police Department, the Barron County community, and the families (both blood and blue) of two officers lost in the line of duty today.”
Emily Breidenbach’s obituary and funeral arrangements will b released by the family at a later date.
