According to the sheriff’s office, Thad Friday was descending along the backside of the Bastille Wall when he fell 300 to 400 feet. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office stated a climber died after falling hundreds of feet while descending a wall at Eldorado Canyon State Park on Thursday afternoon.
It happened shortly after 2 p.m., according to deputies. Deputies were told by witnesses that a 48-year-old man was descending the underside of the Bastille Wall when he plummeted 300 to 400 feet.
Deputies say he died on the spot. His body was carried to the trailhead by rescue teams. Thad Friday was identified as the climber by the Boulder County coroner’s office.
The scene was responded to by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Coroner’s Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Mountain View Fire Protection District, and Louisville Fire Protection District.
