Douglas Smith Death – On Wednesday, about 5 p.m., emergency personnel were summoned to the Hobby Lobby distribution center, which is close to S.W. 44th and Council Road. In central Oklahoma, a Hobby Lobby distribution center was the scene of a fatal shooting, according to authorities. One person was found dead at the site when police arrived. Douglas Smith, who is 69 years old, is that victim. Early reports said that Smith, a manager, and an employee at the distribution center named Domonique Thompson, 32, were at odds. Smith was shot by the employee at one point, who apparently pulled a gun and killed him there.
Authorities found out that the suspect was observed driving away from the crime site in a red Dodge Charger. According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Foster, authorities learned that Thompson was traveling north on Interstate 35. He claimed that they had troopers posted along the freeway up to the Kansas border. Thompson was discovered at a petrol station off the Stillwater exit at 7 o’clock. We began to converge, Foster remarked. The vehicle returned to Oklahoma City while traveling south on I-35. According to the police, the chase occasionally reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. After leaving the interstate at a Guthrie exit, Thompson continued west on Highway 33 until, according to law officials, he wrecked close to the Kingfisher County boundary.
Further information
Law enforcement personnel used an armored truck to approach the suspect in the automobile after a standoff during which time he made no noise. “We walked out, and we saw the person,” Foster remarked. “There was nothing – no word, no motion. We were able to remove him from the car and determine that he had passed away. Nearly a dozen different law enforcement organizations sent officers to the area. Authorities with the Oklahoma City Police Department confirm that Thompson passed away, but they don’t offer any other information on the incident. Foster assured KFOR that the Dodge Charger’s license plate matched the one that had been spotted leaving the warehouse. Also, he claims that the suspect’s description was accurate.
The founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby, David Green, said, “Today, our Hobby Lobby family mourns the loss of a valued and respected employee, Doug Smith, to a senseless and heartbreaking act of violence. Our hearts are torn apart. We kindly urge everyone to pray for Doug’s family, friends, and coworkers as well as the first responders who acted immediately to secure our building and protect our personnel. One day after a fellow employee at Hobby Lobby was shot and died, employees there told the media that the atmosphere at work on Thursday was weird. Doors at the property are shut, according to the employees KFOR spoke to, and anyone attempting to enter needs a work badge.
