Doug Pierce Death – Owner of Pierce Country Day Camp Doug Pierce of Roslyn, New York has died. He passed away surrounded by his beloved family on Wednesday 5th April 2023. He was announced dead by his family in a publication that says “It is with heavy hearts that we want to inform our camp community that our beloved Grandfather, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Big Chief, Doug Pierce passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep yesterday”. No cause of death has been learned.
Doug Pierce Career
Over the course of more than 30 years as Pierce’s Owner and Director, Doug was extremely successful. Doug is a pillar in the New York State camping community. He is a graduate of Hofstra University and has worked in numerous positions to advance the cause of campers. Doug is also a stalwart in the camping community. Notably, he served as President of multiple associations, including the American Camp Association – New York Section, the Long Island Association of Private Schools and Day Camps, the New York State Camp Director’s Association, and Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education.
This accomplishment stands out among his other accomplishments. Doug was a recipient of the Distinguished National Service Award from the American Camp Association and was most recently recognized as a Legend of Camping for his work in the field of summer camps. Both of these awards were given to Doug in recognition of his services to the industry.
Who was Doug Pierce?
After receiving an appointment from Governor Pataki, he is currently serving on the Governor’s Safety Council for the state of New York. Three of Doug and Marie’s children are now adults, and all three of them spent their childhoods at Pierce Country Day Camp. They receive the pleasure of watching their youngest child, Courtney, as she carries on the Pierce family’s illustrious and long-standing tradition of going to camp. Doug was a very remarkable man to have in a leadership role. Pierce has had such a significant role in the lives of so many people.
Because he took such immense pride in everything, he never failed to make you feel valued, respected, and cared for at all times. When he entered a room, it was immediately clear that he was there. Doug was a great man who brightened the lives of countless children by providing them with memorable laughs, fun moments, and smiles during their time at camp and preschool. His legacy at Pierce Day Camp and in the camping community will be the leadership and friendship he provided to others.
