Dot Herold Cause Of Death, Obituary Not Yet Available – Mrs Dot Herold, a genuinely wonderful and remarkable former member of the Preparatory staff, passed away earlier this week, and the St John’s Community was deeply saddened.
According to stjohnscollege.co.za, Dot worked at the Prep for 16 years, first as a part-time personal assistant to then-headmaster Mr Tim Evans until becoming his full-time personal assistant in 1992. “Dot was always the first port of call for students and employees with issues. Her genuine concern meant that no one was ever turned away without her help. Her office was always a source of assistance and a safe sanctuary for individuals seeking comfort and support.”
She enjoyed assisting the Headmaster while also encouraging the staff and lads. Many mature men will remember her for her bright eyes, pleasant laugh, readiness to share her phone (so they wouldn’t have to use the tickey box), and the cuddly Tasmanian Devil that hung on her office door to relieve exam stress. She was in charge of all the misplaced items, treats, confidences, and even a day’s worth of sports gear.
Gavin and Peter, her kids, attended St John’s from Kindergarten to UV and matriculated from Alston House in 1997 and 1999, respectively. In the Prep, her grandson Thomas, who is currently in Lower III, is still flying the Herold family flag. All who knew and loved Dot – the first dot.com – will remember her with warmth, admiration, and thanks.
